Emu Bay Lavender, is situated at Emu Bay Road just
minutes form the beach and represents the culmination of four
years of planning by Tony Bell and Maria Patterson.
Looking to diversify from the traditional farming
activity on their property, they planted a small garden of five
lavender varietes in 2001, and the following year prepared for
their first big planting with six different varities.
In the summer of 2003/04 more than 1,000 bunches
were harvested and later stripped by hand, yielding about 13 kilograms
of dries lavender. Interestingly it takes an average of 100 kilograms
of flower head to produce one litre of lavender oil, depending
ont he variety and size. Now there are 13 varieties and 3,000
producing lavenders on the site, that Tony and Maria evetually
hope to expand to 25,000 in the years ahead.
Open 7 days during SA School Holidays 100 - 1630.
Closed May to September during winter.
From Emu Bay to American River can be found
