Where the wild things are!
Discreetly nestled amongst the wilderness, elegant
dining with casual atmosphere in the company of resident wallabies
and possums. Enjoy unpretentious food inspired by local produce
with international influences.
Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat offers visitors
to Kangaroo Island a true Australian wilderness experience combined
with intimate accommodation, superb food and wine and unsurpassed
levels of personalised service only ever experience in owner-hosted
establishments. Resident owners, Helen and James Knight welcome
guests to their eco friendly retreat discretely nestled in a natural
bushland setting. Perfectly situated, the Kangaroo Island Wilderness
Retreat is the only accommodation complex adjacent to the entrance
of the Flinders Chase National Park.
Exploring Kangaroo Island is easily achieved from
this one location with major attractions including Rocky River,
Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, Kelly Hill Caves, Seal Bay, Koala
Walk, Vivonne Bay, Hanson Bay and beautiful bushwalks all within
easy reach. With 46 hectares of pristine Australian bushland in
the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat is as much a retreat for
the wildlife as it is for guests. Take a stroll on one of the
many walks from the retreat and it is likely you will see an echidna,
goanna, kangaroo or koala.
Closer to the rooms, wallabies and possums playfully
entertain guests in the courtyard at night while an amazing array
of bird life provides the perfect background chorus at dawn and
dusk. Guests are invited to spoil themselves in one of 22 (AAAT
four star) luxuriously appointed Wilderness Courtyard Suites featuring
all the amenities you would expect to find in a first class international
hotel room.
Families wanting to self-cater can choose from one
of five (AAAT four star) Eco Lodge Apartments while less disconcerting
guests can still experience this idyllic setting with one of five
(AAAT three star) Eco Lodge Rooms. Enjoy the serenity of our location
and experience the splendour of Kangaroo Island all from the comfort
of this unique wilderness retreat.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
Stunning natural rock formations are the feature
of Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's
Arch. The Chase Café
at Rocky River Visitor Information Centre is the entry point to
these scenic locations.
Set amongst the native bushland, the Wilderness
Retreat is a friendly meeting point just outside the park
and a great place to explore Flinders Chase National Park. Platypus
are just one of the many species to be discovered on the parks
many walks.
